Just Solutions have been engaged by several Councils to undertake a review of
all-weather playing pitch provision supporting outdoor team sport needs.
The reviews embraced an assessment of:
The scope and quality of provision;
Usage, maintenance and management issues;
Local needs;
Financial evaluation.
The approaches included:
Site visits to undertake summary stock-takes and ascertain the condition and use of the artificial turf pitches and Redgra areas and to a lesser extent a number of grass pitches;
Scoping interviews with Parks Managers;
Reviews of management information and data.
The reviews made a case for the development of better strategically located artificial pitches that serve a much larger majority of user demands and have the potential to generate a significant level of income - through higher levels of intensity of use and reasonable charges for a quality user experience.
The reports also identified that most Secondary Schools have an existing ATP or Redgra that could be upgraded for this purpose or are located within easy access of a nearby facility.
The reports included new planning guidance and the full case for the development of more artificial pitches as well as business and funding plans.
The studies have informed a number of positive developments including: the development of a number of new 3G pitches; local sports plans for future facilities; influencing the thinking of Head Teachers and Education Departments with regards 21st Century School designs.
