Developing Learning Communities
The Council commissioned Just Solutions Leisure Consultants to work with officers and schools to evaluate current practice and develop a practical framework for delivery, offering working models to support the management and development of schools at the hub of the Learning Community that could be piloted and adapted to best suit local circumstances.
The Council's vision is for schools or families of schools to be at the heart of their Learning Community not only providing education and training, but also working in partnership to provide a range of services and learning opportunities for children, young people and adults.
The Council aspires to develop Learning Communities that not only support the school to educate and promote high standards of educational achievement amongst children and young people but also to:
Promote and provide lifelong learning opportunities;
Facilitate the development of the school as a centre for delivering services;
Build partnerships with statutory and non-statutory organisations;
Engage with the community through consultation and involvement;
Maximise resources and make best use of community facilities, including using the school site in the evenings, weekends and school holidays.
Currently discussing plans for the development of different local pilots and timescales for their implementation.
