Welsh Football Trust - Strategy

'Growing the Game and Raising Standards' is the Trust's 2010 - 2014 Strategic Plan.  The plan highlights how the generally poor standard of grass-roots facilities and playing surfaces throughout Wales is likely to inhibit the planned and potential growth of the game. The Welsh Football Trust engaged Just Solutions to develop a facilities vision and strategy to help address these issues.
The rationale for the Welsh Football 'Better Facilities' vision included development of facilities:
That can support FAW, Club and College academies to develop footballers who have the skills and motivation to become top level players in the Welsh Pyramid of Leagues;
That are improved to increase their capacity supporting greater use, and by more groups;
That can  support more mini football - for age groups ranging from under 7's to under 11's, feeding into junior football;
That can support informal and small sided recreational leagues, catering for 'lifelong' adult participation;
To support improved junior football standards, as well as increasing and maintaining participation;
That have the capacity to better integrate junior and senior football;
That belong to clubs used to serve the wider community – as alternative learning centres or for other sporting needs.
These aspirations demand more playing facilities that can support greater football use all year round. So at the heart of Welsh Football's 'Better Facilities' vision is an aspiration to encourage the development of more 3G pitches that can offer '24/7' training and playing opportunities. This is essential to accommodate the targeted additional numbers of participants, levels of coaching and standards of performance throughout the Welsh Pyramid.
Just Solutions work included designing the vision and an approach to its implementation, and inviting expressions of interest from partners prepared to develop exemplar projects. The approach led to a partnership between the Sports Wales and the Trust to stimulate the development of improved playing surfaces to achieve better performance and more participation in football.
